International Ibsen Conference : Socio-political Aspects of Ibsen's
Plays
The international conference will include scholars and theatre
practitioners from Asia, Europe and Africa. Keynote speaker will be
Merete Morken Andersen, novelist and writer of The Ibsen's Handbook,
Norway. There will be three main speakers: Mitsuya Mori, professor,
Department of Art Studies, Seijo University, Tokyo, Japan, Jon Nygaard,
professor, Centre for Ibsen Studies, University of Oslo, Norway and Munzur-i-Mowla, poet and writer,
Bangladesh. The conference will take place during the
period 11-13 May at Hotel Purbani International in Dhaka.
Theatre festival : Staging Ibsen in Asia
The festival will include theatre troupes from Bangladesh, India, Japan,
Nepal, Pakistan and Taiwan. There will be performances every day at
19.15 during the period 11-20 May. Venue: National Theatre Auditorium,
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka.
Theatre festival : Ibsen's Plays through Young Eyes
This festival will provide opportunity to learn how the young generation
in Bangladesh interprets Ibsen's plays, and it includes productions made
by several theatre groups of the country, including from five public
universities, notably Chittagong, Dhaka, Jahangirnar, Khulna and
Rajshahi. There will be performances every day at 17.00 during the
period 11-17 May Venue: Experimental Theatre Hall, Bangladesh Shilpakala
Academy, Dhaka.
Exhibition : Images of Ibsen's Life and Plays
The exhibition will feature works by 32 master and young painters of
Bangladesh who have been assigned to make paintings on the basis of
Ibsen's plays. The exhibition will also include documentary material on
Henrik Ibsen's life and work. The exhibition will be inaugurated on 10
May at 17.30 by HE Aud Lise Norheim, Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh.
The exhibition will be open to the public daily 10.00-17.00 during the
period 11-20 May. Venue: National Art Gallery, Fine Arts Department,
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka.
Exhibition : To be a poet is to see - Ibsen in our time
Exhibition showing the socio-political aspects of Ibsen's production and
their continuing relevance today, produced for Ibsen Year 2006 by The
Norwegian Museum of Cultural History/The Henrik Ibsen Museum in Oslo for
the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The exhibition will be
open to the public daily 10.00-17.00 during the period 11-20 May. Venue:
National Art Gallery, Fine Arts Department, Bangladesh Shilpakala
Academy, Dhaka.
Film shows : Ibsen Crossing Borders
There will be a series of film shows with feature films and
documentaries everyday at 17.30 during the period 11-15 May. The film
shows will open with the documentary Ibsen in Bangladesh directed by
Faridur Rahman. Visual artist Mustafa Monwar will inaugurate the event
on 11 May at 17:30, Fine Arts Department, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy,
Dhaka.
Activities at universities : Ibsen Moving with Academia
Five public universities of Bangladesh are arranging a series of
seminars on the same theme as the international conference,
Socio-political Aspects of Ibsen's Plays. Each university is also
staging one of Ibsen's plays in Bangla.
